The effects of stress are far too many to enlist. It’s a psychological condition that affects all living things, and one of our primary goals is to ensure we don’t have to deal with it. One way to ensure stress is not part of your life is to take up martial arts. These ancient practices of combat have stood all the tests of time, and are still practiced today in many regions across the world.

Martial arts instil a sense of confidence and discipline. They enable you to feel in control of your life and your environment. Because they engage your mind and body, they are a good way of combating any stressors that you have. The specifics of how it works are rather complicated, and not even completely understood. The important thing is that they work to keep you in a positive state of mind. It doesn’t really matter the variety of martial arts being practiced, because they all work towards the same goal.

Besides keeping stress away, with martial arts, you develop some level of physical fitness. Just how fit you become depends on the variant of martial arts you practice, as well as the intensity. It’s hard to master the art of capoeira and still be overweight at the same time.

If you are like most people, the mention of martial arts directs your mind to an Asian setting where complex fighting styles are carried out. Media exposure, more so from the 90s, is part of the reason why we’re predisposed to such thinking. While martial arts do originate from the Eastern parts of the world, they are not exactly as portrayed in the movies.

Martial arts are traditionally systems of combat, but the purpose they serve goes past combat. They are practiced for self-defence, for competition, and in this case, for physical fitness and development. There are many varied forms of martial arts, but all of them do help nurture your physical attributes. As such, if your goal is to increase your flexibility, your levels of physical fitness, or to simply explore your physical capabilities, you should take martial arts up. You won’t necessarily gain muscle mass, because your heart is more engaged than your muscles are, but you can be able to shed the few extra inches on your midsection.
With martial arts, your mental health also gets a boost, your self-esteem increases, and you have greater self-control. In most schools, these benefits of martial arts are the ones sought, and the aspects of combat are not given any emphasis at all.

There’s something empowering about learning how to defend yourself. It instils a sense of confidence which is hard to find through any other means. Self-defence is important for both genders, because in the face of an attack, it teaches you what to do to escape unhurt. Self-defence in this case refers to physically outwitting your opponent and getting away, and not really beating them senseless as it is portrayed in the movies. The best way to learn about it is through taking martial arts, and not really a dedicated self-defence class.

Martial arts will teach you more than how to defend yourself. These combat arts teach about discipline, as well as control, in addition to the basic moves you need to defeat an attacker. You do need to choose the variety to learn, as there are martial arts that focus on self-defence primarily, and there are others that teach combat as well. In the modern schools that teach both these variances, the martial arts techniques and styles taught are different. You get to choose one based on things such as your physical and mental capacities, your age, your gender, as well as your lifestyle. Learning martial arts is indeed empowering and might be just what you need to feel uplifted.

For those of us who lack an insight into what martial arts is really about, we have this preconceived mental image that it involves some hardcore combat. But there’s more to martial arts than what Asian films have taught us. Some of it is true- such as the different kinds of combat (or variants of martial art such as Taekwondo and Jujitsu), but some of it is a little exaggerated.

In the real world, martial arts are a little more complicated, and a lot more involving as well. You don’t get to attain the skills of practicing the martial arts by having a mean attitude and a score to settle, because very little of martial arts have to do with actual combat and inflicting harm. In the west mostly, martial arts are learned for an entirely different purpose. True, one of the reasons is self-defence, but the bigger reason is to learn the art of discipline.

Our humanity is our greatest strength, but it is sometimes our greatest weakness. It is very easy for us to lose control and discipline over our lives, especially when we give in to things that don’t prosper us in any way. Martial arts can teach you how to stay focused on the things that really matter. It can help you learn about discipline and control- two qualities you at least need to have to be successful.

Martial arts is a rather collective term indicating different traditions of combat. Most people mistakenly think of martial arts as fighting arts practiced in the greater East Asia, but this is inaccurate. Granted, they can be categorized into martial arts, but the definition of martial art stretches past that. One can get into martial arts for all kinds of reasons. In the west, most people indulge because they want to learn self-defense. But this is just one reason, and apparent benefit of martial arts.

Another is that you learn discipline. Martial arts teach of control above power, so you really learn the art of control. This is what gives way to discipline. You involve your body, depending on the specific variation of martial arts that you have decided to specialize in. In other words, it’s a means of keeping fit. Capoeira is a fine example. It needs you to be really fit and really agile for you to be any good at it.

Martial arts improve your overall self-esteem. You feel like you have assumed a position of power, and this does a lot to your self-worth and confidence. It also provides a way of venting out as you find something to direct energy to. Consequently, this reduces your stress levels, which is another plus.

If you have decided to take up martial arts, it can be very difficult to decide where to begin because there are different styles of martial arts and it is confusing to zero on the right one. To decide the right kind of martial arts, a friend of mine sought his sister’s help who had started Taekwondo which is a Korean art. He went along with her for a seminar and demonstration in one of her classes of color belt gradings. Non-students are generally not permitted to watch grading. However, interaction after the grading with students, instructors and parents helped my friend decide.

The grading examiner and the students held a demonstration of basics of Teakwondo martial arts. Apart from this, they spoke about their personal experiences from the various other martial arts, he tried apart from Taekwondo. Then there was a seminar explaining the origin and development of Taekwondo. All these were very interesting.

If you are planning to take up martial arts, you must talk to an expert and know the intricate details of the particular form. If you are not sure about it after talking to the expert, you can watch some demonstrations and also research on the Internet. All these will help you decide on the right form of martial arts for you.

Athletes are the people who want to make a career in the field sports of any kind. An athlete can choose any sport according to his/her preference. There are sports where male athletes were only allowed to participate. But, today there is no such sport, which is not played by both the genders. Athletes have a good career prospect today as compared to the last decades.

Athletes not only get good training today to master over their skills, but also a decent pay is offered to them. Sports like skateboarding, cricket, air-shooting and many other sports where females where restricted, have no such bar today. In a poll, it was found out the today number of athletes who practice on skateboards consist of 26% female ratio on the whole. So, there is not bar for female athletes in any sports today. Even in the field of bodybuilding and wrestling, females have started to make their mark. It is often said that the most hardworking athletes are bodybuilders.

Athletes have to take special care of their health in order to perform well. Zaheer Khan, the Indian fast bowler is down with an injury due to which he was unable to play in the cricket test matches going on in London. You can say that being an athlete is not an easy task, but it is sometimes worth being one.

Martial was originated in Asian countries and martial arts are self defense techniques which needs lot of stamina, strength and flexibility. This form of art activates the entire muscular system of the body. Martial art promotes self discipline. Martial arts reminds us of the techniques that people in ancient times used to protect themselves and their family when there were there were no scopes for defense then the self defense was the only way to deal with enemies. Martial arts is the art of war but also teaches us certain principles of our lives such as respect, working hard etc to grow as a nice human being.
Martial is helps us to be physically fit and defend ourselves.

Martial art was practiced by monks and nuns. Some traditional martial arts are weapon based. Gatka is known as Indian weapon based martial arts and it was invented by Sikhs in Punjab. Shastra Vidya(ancient martial arts) was popularly known among Kshatriya (Hindus). Martial training courses have in been started nowadays to ensure that the new generation learns this art and should know the importance of this art in self defense. Students take the initiative to learn martial art not just for self defense but also to impress their friends with some kicks.
