Stretch Marks are caused by many reasons, the first and foremost being pregnancy. Obesity is another cause for stretch marks, so is rapid weight gain or loss, which can occur due to body building or even hormonal disorders. What is not commonly known is that if the body is not getting the nutrients it requires, it may develop stretch marks. Abrupt changes in physical environment can cause them and this can also be a side effect of certain medications and steroids.
Medical science has developed a lot and many remedies are now available to lighten the appearance of stretch marks and also clear the skin totally like chemical peels, laser and plastic surgery. These are expensive and not many people can afford them. There are many traditional ways to reduce the scars and perhaps even cure them, but these are slow and you must be patient and wait for the effect to show.

1. Exercise is the best way to get a healthy skin. Exercise firms and tones up your body and the skin gets rejuvenated. You avoid sudden weight gain and this prevents development of stretch marks
2. It you have dry skin you have a tendency to get stretch marks since dry skin is prone to breaking when stretched. Drink sufficient water to keep your body hydrated. Use a good moisturizer. It is always better not to dry yourself by rubbing yourself with a towel but pat yourself dry, allowing the water to dry off naturally.
